Definition: Actions, practics, or beliefs that reflect the racial worldview: the ideology that humans are divided into separate and exclusive biological entities called "races".
Race manifests diversity and allows people to learn from different cultures and backgrounds. When we hear the word racism, people generally think that racism exhibits a strong disliking towards a certain group of people; however, racism is more than that. While we want to believe that racism doesn’t exist in society today, it continues to live on. In today’s society people find humor in ethnic jokes that categorize people due to their cultural group while they stereotype one’s race. Normally ethnic jokes are aimed towards minorities and people with different skin colors are targeted for offence jokes. Not only is one judged by the tone of their skin but also by the way one talks, dresses, and acts.
Racism and War:
During World War II, there was a racial discrimination as Jewish people were targeted for not having the Aryan appearance.
During the Civil War, the North did not want slavery of blacks while the South argued against them.
Racism Statistics
In 2009 about half of the total hate crimes was due to race.
Of the 4,057 victims of racial bias, 71.5 percent were victims because of an offender’s prejudice against blacks.
