Day Fifty-Four; Man in the mirror

Day Fifty-Four; Man in the mirror by Alyssa Gonzales
I am thankful for my father's strength.

What does it mean to have a father? To me, having a father means having constant support, someone to push me to my furthest ability, someone who listens when I talk, gives great advice, and teaches me about life. I am eternally grateful to have a father and I am glad to call him my hero. The most important lesson my father has taught me was to never take anything for granted. He didn’t say these words to me, but he showed me how to appreciate life to his fullest. When my father got into a car accident he was on the passenger seat, he was responding to an emergency call with his partner as a paramedic. It was then the ambulance lost control and hit a fence. That was the night my father lost his nerves on his right leg. Six years later, my father uses a crutch and limps when he walks. He is the strongest man I will ever know. I remember the day that he learned how to walk again, walk up the stairs, and worked hard to come back home in time to watch my little brother go to his first day in kindergarten. It’s amazing how much one person can teach you about life and how much strength a person can have. My father would sacrifice anything for the happiness of my siblings and I and no one knows how much that means to me.

I can only hope that one day I will be able to look in the mirror and be half the person my father is.
