I believe I can do anything.

Today in English class we exhibited through a very interesting topic that overwhelmed me. My teacher noticed how much the conversation caught my interest and could see me pondering about the importance of perspectives. I am very open to different point of views which allows me to be the person who I am but what if we were told one story? That one story is what everyone believed and there was no other story but that one story. I’m not sure if I’m making quite sense but this has been nudging in the back of my mind all day. Today we talked about Nero who is illustrated as one of the worst emperors due to the reason he was unconventional, killed his mother, wife, and half brother. However; only one story exists of Nero which was written decades after Nero died. Tacitus wrote about Nero and Nero’s accounts but the only thing that exists in this world about Nero is what Tacitus believed. This alters everything because perspective is the key to how one views life. For instance, while the Holocaust is a very serious subject, many people were told that the Holocaust was a hoax and that there were no concentration camps or mass murder. While there are sufficient evidence, documentation, and 11 million lives that were lost to prove this account, people were taught differently and continued to walk on this earth believing that the Holocaust did not occur because of one single story. Now imagine life if we were told one thing and not the other. Only look right, there is no left direction. How different would life be? Extremely different! Think about all of the things that we would miss. The importance of perspectives lies within the capability individuals maintain; thus believing that the inevitable is possible and there is no limit. Due to the fact that I have an African American President and women now run business and corporations while 100 years ago people were told this was impossible, I believe I can do anything and this is because of the fact that some individual had a different perspective and took action into altering society.
