Life told by Joyce

James Joyce recognized as a brilliant writer who manifests ingenious as he incorporates symbolism and evinces the significance of every single line in this works, every single scene, description, and even names of characters. To be honest I did not quiet understand the beginning of "The Dead' until  I actually got to the last two pages of his story. The idea of life is a facade and the reality in which we create in our mind differs from the reality that another individual lives. While one person perceives life in a certain way, another can view the world through an opposite perspective causing one to believe in something that is unreal. Gabriel lives in a world in which he believes he is superior but his true identity is demonstrated as he is a foil to his wife Gretta. Joyce evaluates the importance of temperature and the symbolism of snow in comparison towards Gabriel's character. Like his personality, snow is cold. While Gabriel is illustrated as an egocentric character who is thought highly of others and thinks highly of himself, he manifests a weakness towards his interaction with the world. He creates his own world in which he lives a perfect life in his mind and is fooled by the alternate reality that he creates. Joyce's writing is appealing as he thinks differently than most writers and his writing goes deeper than just reading between the lines. He adds meaning and a twist to cause readers to evaluate life and look at the world in a different lens.
