life after you

While there are many places I have come to find throughout the years, this one is my new favorite. Vacant for 12 years, I have never seen a place in such great condition with very little vandalism. These past two months being back in school has given me new insight on photography. I often find myself forgetting what I embrace most about this medium but recently it feels like I am falling in love for the second time with photography. Photography is all about making decisions; whether we we are conscious of it or not. Technology has created a misunderstanding in the mass production of photography and thats why this art form is not appreciated as much as it should be. Each photograph we take is a moment of time that is recorded, a documentation of what is and what was. Exploring this 1920 hotel with 150 rooms amazed me today. I'm in love with the idea of there being a sense of presence but being completely absent. I'm in love with the idea of time freezing especially in this case, where time froze for 12 years and everything is mostly all in the same place. I'm in love with the idea that this building's function was for human life and now it lives a life of its own, decaying and starting to fall apart.
